December 21, 2012

I’ve been watching TV shows about the end of the world.  Some people seem to think that a cataclysmic event will happen on the winter solstice in 2012.  This notion began with a prophecy.  It was decoded from a Mayan calendar and since then other prophecies have surfaced confirming the worst, so they say.  This hasn’t stopped science from evaluating the possibility.  Apparently there will be a rare alignment of the Earth, Sun and center of the galaxy.  It is theorized that this alignment will cause the magnetic poles to shift, causing all kinds of catastrophes.  This pole shift has happened before but it seems that no one has bothered to find out if it coincides with mass destruction.  Mass extinctions, major upheavals, anything like that would be evidence and yet that doesn’t make it into the show.  The most peculiar part of watching any program about this prophecy is how calm the delivery is.  Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to scream about the destruction of the world?
