Southern Visitor

Where I live we are visited by a weather phenomenon call The Pineapple Express.  This is a mass of warm air from the south that brings moisture and that means rain.  Not sprinkles of rain, but gallons of it.  The street gutters become clogged from the other phenomenon that occurs this time of year, falling leaves.  Lakes start growing around major intersections and inside parking lots.  I went for a walk in it yesterday, or rather a swim.  Fortunately the warm air makes the dampness bearable.  Weather like this always makes me think that perhaps I would be better off getting around in a boat.

Frosty Air

The cold weather arrived early this year, but not snow.  Saturday night there was frost on my windshield and the air was bitterly cold the following morning.  It was only a few months ago that I was roasting in 90+ degree weather.  It will be several more months before I can complain about the heat again.  In between there may be sunshine or a rare warm day.  I’ll take whatever is offered and hope the relief isn’t a sign of drought or flood.

Tan Line

Each morning I look at my feet and I’m reminded of summer.  Why?  Well it happened that I managed to get a tan on my legs.  It wasn’t something that I made an effort to do, it just happened.  I had been painting at a local park and part of my lower legs had been exposed to the sun.  It was a very strange pattern and I attempted to fix it by getting a pair of flip-flops and wearing shorts.  It just proves that our best efforts are often unintentional.

Tired of Waiting

Another date for world change has past.  Perhaps there are some disappointed folks who were counting on a change in consciousness, who really knows.  At least there were sensible people observing Veteran’s Day even though there was rain and wind.  I’m guessing the next great fateful date is 12/12/12 and of course 12/21/12.  There are plenty of negative events to ponder these days and hope seems to be hiding.  As for me, I’m not going to rely on a number to tell me when change is needed.  There are those that wait for change and those that make it happen.  I’ve waited long enough.

Peculiar Time

Daylight savings is over.  For some it may be the start of a long, sleepy winter, but for others it’s an energy boost for those cold, dark mornings.  I’ve been hearing about time and significance of certain hours.  For some reason 1:11am is to be dreaded as well as 11:11pm.  I’ve heard differing opinions on 3:00am.  Some think it is the hour to listen for God’s voice and others believe it is the hour of the devil.  If this continues, soon there could be a reason to dread every hour and minute.

Bye Halloween

Another Halloween has come and gone.  This year brought showers to the Northwest and snow to the Northeast.  People dressed up in costume and jack-o-lanterns sat on porches.  Lights twinkled and graveyards popped up on neighbor’s lawns.   It’s kind of sad when it’s over.  It’s time to focus on the next holiday.  I wonder if the neighbor with the lights will start on Christmas decorations today.
