Walk by the river

This afternoon I took a walk by the Willamette River.  The water level is low enough to walk out on the shoal.  There are scads of pebbles.  Most are rounded and they’re coated with a white, chalky substance.  Along the edge, green slime clings to the rocks and occasional branch.  The water was glassy green today.  It was a clam day.  No wind or rain to rile the river.  The cottonwoods are still sending out their seeds and the air is filled with cotton fluffs.  It looks like snow, but can make you sneeze and make your eyes itch.  We’ve had a wet week, but they say the sunshine is coming back.  A little breeze would be nice, just to blow away the cottonwood.
