Blue Yonder

It’s that season of the year.  Blue skies are the norm.  Unfortunately it’s also a time of haze that blocks the view of the mountains.  The best time to see them is in the morning, before the haze has a chance to form.  I have a clear view of at least two volcanoes.  On a clear day I can see four of them, but only from a high vantage point.  One of the volcanoes is Mt. St. Helens.  This one is difficult to see from the valley floor.  The top third was blown off in the May 18th eruption.  I remember that day.  My family was driving north from Salem and at first we thought the cloud was from Oregon City.  Someone decided to turn on the radio, and then we knew what happened.  Mt. St. Helens was a very beautiful volcano; unfortunately it was also very active.
